Festival of Cernina in a New Style

On September 13th, 2009 the 4th year of the folk festival was held in Cernina, the Svidník region, under the new name “From the heritage of our ancestors” as a part of the “Days of Rusyn traditions”. What was new about this year of the festival? For the very first time it was organised by the Municipal Office of Cernina and the Poddukelský Educational Centre in Svidník in cooperation with the Rusyn Revival in Slovakia. The fact that there were three events which took place simultaneously at the festival was also new. Apart from the interesting cultural programme for the residents of the village, a ceremonial act was prepared on the occasion of the “Day of respect to the elderly” and all honourees were greeted and given gifts and flowers. But the greatest novelty of the festival was the fact that all the performers presented themselves at the festival for the first time. These included the following folk groups: Brežinka from Mestisko, Medulienka from the Elementary School on Karpatská Street in Svidník, soloists Karinka Poligová and Anna Poráčová, the dulcimer band of the Kolár brothers from Kolačkov, and others. The festival was realised with the financial support of the Slovak Ministry of Culture and the chair of the Prešov self-government Peter Chudík.
