Magura Festival in Stebník

On September 6th, 2009 the local municipality organized the 16th year of the Magura Festival on the occasion of the 595th anniversary of the first historical mention of the village of Stebník in the Bardejov region. As a part, a commemorative tablet was ceremonially unveiled to a significant representative of the rebellion in North-East Slovakia and Poland, Andrej Savko (approx. 1619 – 1654). The timing of the tablet unveiling was not incidental; this year we commemorate the 390th posthumous anniversary of A. Savko’s supposed birthday. The commemorative tablet is placed on a large natural stone in front of the building of Municipal Office in Stebník. The bilingual Slovak-Rusyn text on the tablet, which says “to our fellow native, who defended the rights of serfs“ is completed by a styled image of a Carpathian rebel. In the varied cultural programme, the following acts successfully performed and pleased the audience: Jakub Kučečka, Patrícia Semanová, Simona Jacuľaková and Monika Kožená from Stebník, Biana Felegiová, Mária and Patrik Šurkala from Becherov, the folk group Kokavčan from Kokava nad Rimavicou, and the local folk group Stebničanka, which celebrated its 15th anniversary. Štefan Kučečk, the village’s mayor thanked Anna Stašková and Ivan Sidor, the group’s leaders, for their existing cultural activities and wished them many more successful years to come and may they keep pleasing their viewers and listeners.
