Rusyn songs heard far and wide

On September 24th – 26th, 2009, the festival of Rusyn folk song SONGS OF MY HOME saw its 8th year, held under the patronage of the head of the Prešov self-governing region, Peter Chudík. The event was organised by the Rusyn Revival in Slovakia in cooperation with the Prešov self-governing region, the Vihorlat Educational Centre in Humenné, the Town Centre of Culture in Medzilaborce and a number of other institutions. That the festival could be organised was also thanks to the financial support of the Slovak Ministry of Culture within the programme “Culture of Ethnic Minorities 2009”. The children’s part of programme took place for the very first time in the regions of Stará Ľubovňa and Bardejov, specifically in the Rusyn villages of Orlov, Jakubany, Veľký Lipník, Šambron and Chmeľová. The final gala concert, where the results of the competition were announced, took place in Šambron. A similar gala concert was also held in Chmeľov. Another gala concert of this year’s festival’s winners will be held on October 17th, 2009 in Prešov.
