Seminar about A. Bačinský in Miskolc

On August 28th and 29th, 2009 a scholarly seminar was held in Miskolc focused around Andrej Bačinský (1732 – 1809) – the most significant Rusyn Greek-Catholic bishop of Mukhachevo. The seminar was organised by: the Rusyn Ethnic Self-Government, the Rusyn ethnic cultural association Common Force in Miskolc, the Rusyn cultural association Revivalists and the Rusyn Scholarly Institute in Budapest.
The seminar was attended by over 20 participants, local lecturers as well as lectures from the Ukraine and Slovakia. A two-day seminar was held in the House of Culture at the Greek-Catholic Bishopric. The aim of the seminar was to analyse the life and work of A. Bačinský, a patriot, activist and guardian of the Rusyn language, the 200th anniversary of whose death is commemorated this year. The following people from the Slovak delegation gave speeches: PhDr. Lic. Gabriel Sekely from the Greek-Catholic Archbishopric in Prešov; PhDr. Stanislav Konečný, CSc., from the Institute of Social Sciences at the Slovak Academy of Sciences in Košice; Mgr. Gabiel Beskyd and Ing. Demeter Kriško from Prešov. The seminar provided a lot of valuable and new information about the life and work of A. Bačinský.
The unveiling of a tablet at the entrance to an old-time Greek-Catholic church in Herembel to commemorate the 200th anniversary of A. Bačinský’s death was also part of the event. The act of unveiling was performed by Deacon Dr. Lászlo Dudazs, a local priest.
