The village of Žakovce celebrates its jubilee

On July 25th and 26th, 2009, the village of Žakovce in the Kežmarok region celebrated its 800th anniversary. It was where citizens of the neighbouring Rusyn village of Blažov were moved as a result of the building of a military zone. The two-day programme was interesting. Apart from the presentation of the publication “Eight Hundred Years of Žakovce”, a nice folk programme was prepared for those in attendance, a part of which were the following acts: the Uhľar sisters, the dulcimer band of Andrej Kandráč and the folk group of Jarabina.
