They Came as Far as Slovakia to Get Married

August 8th, 2009 was the day when a unique wedding was held in Slovakia, in a wooden Rusyn church in the village of Miroľa (the Svidník region), of Cynthia Maria Magocsi, a Canadian bride of Rusyn origin, and Eamon Gerard O´Dea, a member of the Italian Ladin minority in Ireland, who live together in Paris. Why Slovakia? Maybe because Cynthia’s parents also got married in Slovakia, her mother being a Rusyn and her father an American of Rusyn origin. This might also be a way of returning to our native roots and everything that is native to us.
